Sensai is Kanebo’s luxurious brand. Outside of Japan, it includes products from other brands of the company, as it is the case with this product, which isn’t available in Japan. I think it’s based on one of Kanebo’s old Allie UV sunscreens.
This sunscreen includes micronised zinc oxide and a mix of chemical filters to protect the skin from the damaging UV rays. This product offers SPF50 and high protection against UVA rays, as it has an encircled UVA sign on the packaging. I assume that in the PA rating system, it would get four pluses. In the formula, we can also find niacinamide and plant extracts, which help to protect the face from the free radicals. Unfortunately, the product contains alcohol and fragrance but not in an excessive amount; the scent is quite pleasant.
This sunscreen has a light-weight consistency and feels very luxurious on the face. It is similar to the old Allie UV Gel (NEO), but it has a much smoother and creamier texture, the other one, as the name indicates, felt more like gel. Even though this sunscreen is water-resistant, it doesn’t feel heavy at all, as it has no quirky ‘anti-friction technology’. I like this product a lot; it feels like a second skin on my face. It applies effortlessly, leaves no white cast and gives a satin-like look to the complexion. Only with a few generous reapplications, the product becomes noticeable. You can see that there’s something on your face, and it may appear like a white cast, but it doesn’t make you look ghostly pale. This sunscreen contains zinc oxide, so it’s completely understandable. I like this sunscreen a lot, it doesn’t dry out my skin or clog my pores, and it serves as a good base for anything colourful. But it is prohibitively expensive.
I can understand many things, but over eighty euros for 50ml of sunscreen is an exaggeration, to say the least. I know that Sensai is supposed to be a luxurious brand, which entails steep prices, but this is a sunscreen, something basic and essential. They could drop the price by half easily, and no one would regard Sensai as a poor-quality brand. Probably, I wouldn’t have bought this sunscreen, hadn’t I found it at a clearance sale. There’s no way I would pay the full price for it.
Overall, it is a great sunscreen; it looks and feels fantastic on the skin. If you can tolerate all the ingredients, I think you will like it. I, however, won’t repurchase this product solely because of the price; it is just too high.
