Sesderma REPASKIN Facial Dry Touch SPF 50 – Review

I don’t remember the last time a sunscreen made me so happy; this product is fantastic!

The formula includes a mix of chemical filters and titanium dioxide resulting in optimal protection of SPF 50 and anti-UVA protection of at least a third of the UVB. We can also find here antioxidants that fight off free radicals, and enzymes that help to repair the skin. Sesderma claim that their ‘unique combination of antioxidants, […] stops and prevents sun damage and photoaging. It helps to repair up to 50% of the accumulated photodamage.’ (sesderma.com). I am not sure how valid this claim is, but I know that sunscreen on its own can reverse some photodamage if used correctly, so I am not sure if it’s the antioxidants or just sunscreen that repairs the skin in this case.

This product’s antioxidants come from various sources, a derivative of resveratrol and plant extracts like green tea and Centella Asiatica. There’s alcohol in the formula, however, emollient ingredients like glycerine and dimethicone neutralise its drying effect. The formula includes fragrance, but the product smells like silicone mixed with sunscreen. It’s the best way to describe it; Sesderma have used a weak type of fragrance to mask something without fruition.

This sunscreen applies like a dream. No matter how much of it I use, it will just blend in. This clear-ish, sliconey gel glides on skin like a mattifying primer. It feels velvety and ungreasy. Whether I spread a quarter of a teaspoon or a half of a teaspoon at a time to my face, this sunscreen looks cosmetically elegant on my skin, just the finish changes. A smaller amount gives a slightly powdered face look; nobody would be able to tell I have sunscreen on my face. A larger portion leaves me with a well-powdered face, but not ghostly. It creates a layer similar to that after using blotting papers with powder, you look like you need a few brush strokes to shake off the excess powder. However, it is only noticeable from a close distance. On deeper skin tones, the effect may be more intense, but again it will give you a powdered face look. The smooth texture of this sunscreen doubles up as a great makeup base. It also doesn’t shift around, and it doesn’t transfer onto fabrics easily, which a big plus for me.

The REPASKIN Facial Dry Touch SPF 50 is a great product, but not all so perfect. This sunscreen is advertised for dry skin, and I am not sure if everyone with dry skin would like it, maybe during warm months. Rather, it is suited for oily skin. However, I wouldn’t use it in summer, I tend to avoid mattifying sunscreens in summer as they often break my out due to the heat and sweating. When you use this sunscreen, you also need to make sure that you exfoliate and hydrate your skin regularly, as even the tiniest patch of dry skin will be accentuated, and when you reapply the sunscreen, the loose skin will pill up and roll on your face. Sometimes, the sunscreen gives me a tingling sensation, and not around my eyes though. I reckon it’s in places where my skin is dehydrated. So keeping your skin hydrated when using this sunscreen is imperative. You also need to make sure to blend it well around the hairline and facial hair, as it will leave distinct clumps of gel in your hair.

All in all, it’s an excellent sunscreen. It provides high anti-UV protection, and it applies effortlessly on skin. It looks cosmetically elegant on skin and works for many skin types. I highly recommend this product.

The REPASKIN Facial Dry Touch SPF 50 retails for €24.95 available from sesderma.com.

Update 18/02/2021: If you’d bought the product, you might have noticed that the pump doesn’t work too well, and it isn’t easy to extrude the product. A couple of days ago, I messaged Sesderma because there was quite a bit of product left in my tube, and the pump stopped working. Sesderma said they would pass the information to their Quality Department. So let’s hope they change the packaging or the pump.
